Female Viagra – What is it and What are the Side Effects?

We've all heard about Viagra. It is probably the most popular medication in the world, and it has been used to treat erectile dysfunction since 1998.

Like many other aspects related to sexuality, female Viagra is a topic of interest, for which it is often asked and which is currently generating a lot of concern, both in the scientific world and in the everyday.

Female Viagra is also known as Pink Viagra but its real name is Flibanserin or Addyi. But what is pink Viagra and what is it for? How does this pill work? Is it really effective in increasing desire? Does it have side effects? In the following section, we have tried to answer these questions.

Pink Viagra

What is Female Viagra or Pink Viagra:

The female Viagra is a drug designed for the hypoactive sexual desire of women. It is indicated for premenopausal women who, because of their lack of desire, suffer stress and discomfort in their daily lives.

Female Viagra is a term that is not strictly accurate when we talk about this medication since Addyi does not enhance sexual performance. Instead, it increases the number of times a woman has satisfactory relationships.

Female Viagra received approval from the US Department of Health (FDA) in August 2015. The medication was later also approved for treatment for the case of premenopausal women diagnosed with hypoactive sexual desire disorder.

According to this logic, the lack of desire would be determined by the lack of neurotransmitters in the brain of the woman and, therefore, the taking of a drug that influences these substances would make the desire of the woman increase.

Viagra that is actually not a Viagra:

Although it is called female Viagra, the truth is that it has little Viagra as we know it in its male version. Although both are drugs designed for sexual dysfunction, they have little or nothing to do with each other.

Male viagra increases blood flow to the penis so they can achieve and maintain an erection that allows them to have sex. This pill is taken a while before having the relationships and can be taken sporadically.

However, female Viagra is not a drug that can be consumed when necessary but must take a pill daily, usually before sleep, being a prolonged treatment over time. It also does not work in the same way as the male, female Viagra works by acting on the neurotransmitters of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin.

Side Effects of Female Viagra:

Like all the medications, female Viagra also does have some side effects. Its action begins to be noticed at 4 weeks, like antidepressants and can produce side effects such as dizziness, nausea, fatigue, drowsiness, difficulty sleeping, dry mouth, severe hypotension, and syncope.

This drug is not recommended for postmenopausal women, men, to increase sexual performance and in liver dysfunctions. It should not be taken with alcohol, nor recommended when driving or doing tasks that require attention, at least until the person knows how he or she will react to the medication.
